Draw and Guess
In turns, one player draws a secret word and everyone else tries to guess it in the chat.
- Players
- 2 to 8 players.
- Length
- 30, 60 or 90 seconds of drawing per turn, 1 to 4 rounds per player.
Overview
Draw and Guess is the turn-based game in which the drawer has to get a word across without writing it or speaking about it. The others watch the drawing appear and type their guesses in the chat: the first to guess earns the most.
The drawing board has a full set of tools: brush, eraser, bucket, shapes, emoji, undo and redo, and it can be zoomed in for details. You need at least two players.
How a round goes
- It is one player's turn: they are offered three words and have 30 seconds to choose one (if they do not decide, one is picked at random).
- A short countdown starts, then the drawing time begins.
- While the drawing takes shape, the others type guesses in the chat. Every 15 seconds a hint letter appears, up to a maximum of two.
- A player who guesses gets 100 points if first, 80 if second and so on, 20 less per place, minimum 25. The drawer gets 25 points for every player who guesses.
- After the turn, play moves to the next drawer, until the chosen number of rounds is done.
Tips to win
- Start from the main shape, big and simple; details come later. Viewers guess from the silhouette, not from the finishing touches.
- Use emoji and shapes to save time on common objects: it is a perfectly legitimate way to explain faster.
- If the word is abstract, pick the most recognizable scene and draw the people or objects connected to it.
- If you are guessing, it pays to be early: type short guesses, one at a time, without waiting for the drawing to end.
For the host: settings and tips
- Turns per player go from 1 to 4: with eight people a single round is enough for an evening, with three or four it is worth doing at least two.
- Drawing time can be 30, 60 or 90 seconds: 60 is the most balanced value, 30 is for a lightning-fast match.
- As with the other word games, pick the content language that suits the group.
