Color Match

Look at a color for a few seconds, then recreate it from memory with three sliders.

Players
1 to 8 players (you can play alone).
Length
3, 5 or 7 rounds, with a 3, 4 or 5 second preview and 15, 20 or 30 seconds to recreate the color.

Overview

Color Match tests your visual memory. For a few seconds you see a color, then it disappears and you have to recreate it with three sliders: hue, saturation and brightness. The closer your color is to the original, the more points you earn.

Results are revealed only at the end, round by round: nobody knows mid-match who is winning. You can play alone as well.

How a round goes

  1. The host picks the difficulty, the number of rounds (3, 5 or 7), the preview time (3, 4 or 5 seconds) and the time to recreate the color (15, 20 or 30 seconds).
  2. The color to memorize appears for the length of the preview.
  3. The color disappears and you use the three sliders to recreate it. If the time runs out, the last slider position counts.
  4. Each round is worth from 0 to 100 depending on how close you are to the original.
  5. The total is the sum of the rounds; results are revealed at the end.

Tips to win

  • Decide the hue first, then the brightness: a wrong hue costs far more than an imprecise saturation.
  • Give the color a mental name («forest green», «muted orange») during the preview: remembering words is easier than remembering a shade.
  • Do not waste seconds fine-tuning: if you are close, one more tweak is not worth the risk of moving the wrong way.
  • On a phone screen the brightness can fool you: keep it constant throughout the match.

For the host: settings and tips

  • More rounds means more different colors and less weight on a single mistake: with seven rounds the ranking better reflects everyone's memory.
  • A 3-second preview is the hardest, a 5-second one is the most comfortable for a relaxed pace.
  • In Frenzy the timings are fixed: 4 seconds to memorize and 20 to recreate. You keep going while your color is at least 93% similar to the original, and after each round there is a recap with the starting color, yours and the percentage.
  • In Frenzy a mistake does not knock you out right away: you can use one retry per match and try again on the same color. A second mistake takes you out of the race; in a room the last survivor wins, while alone the result is how many colors you cleared.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play alone?

Yes, from 1 to 8 players.

How is the score calculated?

Each round gives from 0 to 100 based on how close you are to the original color; the total is the sum of the rounds.

What happens in Frenzy if I fail?

Under 93% similarity you fail: the room pauses and you can use your single retry; a second mistake eliminates you.
