Invisible Hunt

An invisible animal hides in the meadow: follow its sound to find it first.

Players
1 to 8 players (you can play alone).
Length
3, 5, 7 or 10 rounds of 20, 30, 45 or 60 seconds each.

Overview

In Invisible Hunt there is nothing to look at: there is only listening. Move the mouse or drag your finger over the meadow and the hidden animal (cow, cat, dog, pig or hen) makes its sound, more often and louder when you are close.

When you think you have found it, click or tap. Within a round the animal is the same for everyone, and the round ends when everyone has found it or time runs out. You can play alone as well.

How a round goes

  1. The host picks the number of rounds (3, 5, 7 or 10) and the length of each (20, 30, 45 or 60 seconds).
  2. You start with an empty meadow: move the mouse or your finger to explore it.
  3. The hidden animal makes its sound more often and louder as you get closer.
  4. When you think you have found it, click or tap: from 1000 points if you find it right away down to 100 if at the last moment.
  5. The round ends when everyone has found the animal or time runs out; then the next round begins.

Tips to win

  • Play with the sound on and, if you can, with headphones: the sounds are the only clue.
  • Start from the center and draw a wide spiral: it is more efficient than moving at random.
  • When the sounds get quicker, slow down and make small movements to refine the position.
  • Do not click just to try: what counts is when you really find the animal, and speed is your score.
  • Listen for the difference between a far sound and a near one: more frequent and louder means you are on the right track, rarer and fainter means you are moving away.

For the host: settings and tips

  • Remind the group to turn the sound on and check the volume before starting, especially on phones.
  • For a relaxed match use 45 or 60 seconds per round; for a speed challenge 20 or 30.
  • With more rounds (7 or 10) the luck of the first animal matters less and whoever listens best overall wins.
